Anne Murray Teed Off for Colon Cancer at Angus Glen Golf Club
Canadian Icons Teamed Up to Raise Funds and Awareness in Support of Colon Cancer Canada
The annual Anne Murray Charity Golf Classic presented by PENTAX with special guest, hockey legend Darryl Sittler in support of Colon Cancer Canada took place on Tuesday, May 18 and this year it was full of celebrity support! The Grammy and Juno award winning singer was joined by hockey legend and former Toronto Maple Leaf, Darryl Sittler, Canadian musician and humanitarian Tom Cochrane and Juno award winning singer Jann Arden.
On May 18, 2010, the celebrity foursome tackled the greens and took on the fairways of the prestigious Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham - named 'Best New Course in Canada' by Golf Digest Magazine in 1995, right after opening the first tee to the public for the first time.
Participants also had a chance to play a round of golf with their favourite Canadian stars. Colon Cancer Canada has provided the opportunity for the golf tournament attendees to place a bid on a day of golf with their favourite celebrity.
This year, more than ever is an exciting time to support Colon Cancer Canada as the organization will make an even bigger difference by joining forces and merging with the Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative Foundation. Together the organizations will be known as Colon Cancer Canada and will remain dedicated to saving lives through increasing public awareness, access to screening, funding research initiatives and providing support to colon cancer patients.
The tournament raised an astonishing $165,000 for Colon Cancer Canada, whose mandate is to make a difference in the field of colorectal cancer, such as fundraising to support research initiatives, campaigns to increase public awareness and networks to provide education and patient support.
